Joachim Birman

Joachim Birman

Joachim Birman was born in the United States to French parents. He began his musical education in France, in Marseille, through singing and music theory, then spent ten years studying double bass, cello and composition. His passion for singing and the voice would lead him to make the cello his main instrument.

After 5 years of study in Paris, he began studying in Switzerland with Xavier Phillips, refining his knowledge of the repertoire and of chamber music.

From Bach to contemporary music, from duo and solo to quartet, Joachim Birman likes to vary the pieces and ensembles he plays. His love of variety leads him to perform in a multitude of different settings and to blend the arts — visual art, fine art, and music.

Joachim Birman plays a cello by Auguste Sébastien Bernardel, graciously lent by his patron Nicolas Dufourcq.
