Leana Schmid

Leana Tamara Schmid, born on 30 January 1999 in Lucerne (Switzerland), discovered her passion and fascination for music at an early age. After taking regular oboe lessons throughout her childhood, she earned her Matura at age 19 from the Alpenquai Gymnasium in Lucerne, in a special track for young musical talents. She then continued her studies at the Haute École de Musique (HEMU) in Lausanne in the class of professor Jean-Louis Capezzali, earning her Bachelor's and Master's with distinction, before refining her playing at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (HfMT) in Cologne with professors Christian Wetzel and Peter Veale.
Leana is a member of the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (LFCO), with which she has performed alongside renowned artists such as Jonathan Nott, David Robertson and Tabea Zimmermann. Invited to perform as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Switzerland since the age of fifteen, she has also collaborated with ensembles such as the Association de la Musique Contemporaine de la Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) in Lausanne, the Sinfonietta Köln, and the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy. She has performed as principal oboist in the largest concert halls in Switzerland, including the KKL Lucerne, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Casino in Bern and Zug, and the Salle Métropole and Opéra de Lausanne.
From a young age, her talent has been recognised through numerous distinctions, including several first prizes at the Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb (2014, 2016 and 2018), as well as through her participation in prestigious international competitions such as the ARD International Music Competition (2024) and the International Aeolus Wind Competition (2025).
