Yannick Schmidli

Yannick Schmidli was born in Sion into a family of musicians. He began music at age 6 at the Tibor Varga academy, before continuing his training at the cantonal conservatory of Valais in the classes of Valérie Bernard, then Cornel Borse. He then joined the pre-professional track in the class of Yolande Leroy. In 2018, he began his studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique Vaud Valais Fribourg, where he studied viola with Tatjana Masurenko, Ronen Shifron and Hans Egidi, and violin with Gyula Stuller. He completed his advanced studies there in 2024 with a Master Concert. He is currently refining his playing with Lech Antonio Uszynski at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag in the Netherlands. He has also benefited from the guidance of Hartmut Rohde, Garth Knox, Mikhail Zemtsov and Timur Yakubov.
Passionate about chamber music, Yannick Schmidli benefited for three years from the teaching of Daniel Haefliger, as well as the guidance of Vincent Coq, Hans Egidi, and members of the Cuarteto Casals. He has performed in the most varied formations, ranging from the string trio to the octet, including the quartet with oboe. He is currently a member of the Joty quartet in the Netherlands, and forms a duo with harpist Marie-Thérèse Zuberey.
He is also active in orchestral playing, regularly performing with the Sinfonia Valais/Wallis. He has also had the opportunity to play with numerous other orchestras, such as the Residentie Orkest Den Haag, the Asko|Schönberg ensemble, the Sinfonietta de Lausanne, and the Orchestre Nexus.
Alongside his performing activities, Yannick Schmidli also has a passion for arranging. He particularly enjoys expanding the viola repertoire by arranging pieces for the instrument drawn from many styles and eras.
